About

Mr. VanderSchuur grew up in Italy and the Eastern US. His father was in the military and his family moved often, forcing him to adapt and develop a strong desire to succeed. He was competitive in athletics year-round, including football on two different continents, swimming, and track.

As a Managing Director, Leo leads a talented Transaction Team that develops our clients’ marketing collateral, promotes opportunities with prospective buyers, proactively manages prospects and the process from origination to close, and provides continuous access to our clients. The value he brings to clients and the team stems from his unique experiences. As a military veteran in the Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program and as an engineer, he focuses greatly on processes and goals, and can support even the most complex businesses. With many years of experience as a successful P&L operator, from $10 million businesses to $800 million global divisions, he analyzes businesses to help identify the keys that will position our clients for a successful sale. And with more than 20 years of M&A experience (both corporate and private equity related), he brings a keen perspective to the deal process, including a strong buy-side viewpoint to anticipate challenges and opportunities and get the most for our clients.

Before joining Benchmark International, Leo was an operating partner in a private equity backed portfolio of companies. Their mission was to build an industrial services portfolio that delivered comprehensive service solutions for critical process equipment, value for clients, and accelerated growth for operating companies and investors. The company completed more than 30 M&A transactions in six years. With responsibility for sourcing, structuring, negotiating, completing, and integrating deals, the work was exceptionally rewarding and solidified his passion for M&A. What drew him to work at Benchmark International was the impressive quality of the team and everyone’s energy, enthusiasm, and shared passion for M&A.
