Many know Thaddeus Bullard as WWE Global Ambassador and WWE Hall of Fame Warrior Award recipient Titus O’Neil. Throughout Tampa Bay, however, he has become equally recognized for creating opportunities for underserved families, supporting students, and investing in the next generation of leaders.
On this episode of Closing Remarks, Dara Shareef sits down with Thaddeus for a conversation about leadership, purpose, service, and the kind of impact that outlives titles and careers.
Through the Bullard Family Foundation, where he serves as President and Chair, Thaddeus has spent years leading mentorship programs, scholarship initiatives, school partnerships, family support efforts, and annual outreach events serving thousands of children and families. His work with the Thaddeus M. Bullard Academy at Sligh Middle Magnet School has helped transform the campus into a hub centered on opportunity, mentorship, wellness, and long-term community support.
Benchmark International has also had the opportunity to support community-focused initiatives alongside Thaddeus and other Tampa Bay organizations, including partnering with Rise Against Hunger to help pack 20,000 meals for families in need and contributing $25,000 alongside Vinik Sports Group to support Metropolitan Ministries. These efforts reflect a shared commitment to strengthening local communities through service and collaboration.
A Life Defined by Purpose
Thaddeus grew up facing poverty, instability, and food insecurity, with many believing his future had already been decided for him. As a child, he was told he would likely end up incarcerated or dead before the age of 16. Instead, one mentor changed the trajectory of his life with a simple message: “I love you, and I believe in you.”
That belief became a turning point, setting Thaddeus on a path that would eventually impact countless others. He went on to become one of the top football recruits in the country, play for Coach Steve Spurrier at the University of Florida, serve as student body vice president, earn two degrees, play professionally in the Arena Football League, and build a global platform through WWE. Today, he serves as a WWE Global Ambassador and is a WWE Hall of Fame Warrior Award recipient.
Purpose Is Bigger Than Passion
During this episode of Closing Remarks, Thaddeus made a distinction that every business owner should hear: passion and purpose are not the same. Passion may inspire someone to begin. Purpose is what sustains them when things become difficult.
That lesson can resonate deeply with business owners and entrepreneurs. Businesses built around recognition can lose direction when circumstances change. Businesses built around purpose understand why they exist and who they serve, giving them a foundation that lasts far beyond short-term success.
Leadership, Identity, and Legacy
Thaddeus also speaks candidly about identity beyond titles. He emphasizes that while achievements and professional recognition can open doors, they should never define a person’s worth. He encourages leaders to remain grounded in their values, relationships, and commitment to serving others, recognizing that true success is measured by the positive difference they make in the lives of those around them.
That philosophy extends beyond business. Throughout his career, Thaddeus has focused on creating impact that continues long after recognition fades. His influence can be seen in the students he has mentored, the families he has supported, and the communities he continues to strengthen throughout the Tampa Bay area.
WWE made Titus O’Neil a recognizable name, but Thaddeus believes legacy is built through relationships, accountability, consistency, and service to others long after success arrives. For him, legacy is not built through personal accolades or public recognition. It is about creating opportunities that empower future generations and leaving communities stronger than you find them. That lesson carries an important message for business leaders.
Titles change. Industries evolve. Careers shift. But the impact you create for other people is what lasts.
