Benchmark International Successfully Facilitated the Transaction Between Mine Environment Management and Ecology Group

May 5, 2026

Benchmark International is pleased to announce the transaction between Mine Environment Management (MEM) and Ecology Group.

Founded by Steven and Marguerite Pearce, MEM is a specialist in delivering practical and pragmatic answers for the global mining industry, across the full life-of-mine cycle, from planning to operations, closure and regeneration.

With its headquarters in Denbigh, North Wales, a second office in Cardiff, and a Swedish operation based in Stockholm, the company has a significant global footprint, with projects delivered across the Nordics, Africa, Eastern Europe, Canada, South America, Central and East Asia, and Australia.

Ecology Group brings together specialist firms with strong foundations in ecology and environmental services to build on their existing success and impact by integrating them into the wider group, while valuing and preserving their unique expertise and services. It invests in the organic growth of each business, providing the resources and support necessary to enhance operations, expand service capabilities, and extend positive impact for business and biodiversity.

The acquisition of MEM comes at a time of significant growth for Ecology Group and is the second business to join the group in 2026.

MEM founder and technical director, Steven Pearce, said: “Speaking for myself and the wider MEM team, we’re very excited to join Ecology Group, especially since our expertise brings a new range of services to the business, and fits closely with the group’s ambitions to become a market leader. There is a real need for the combined and complementary expertise of the group, and we’re confident in our shared ability to deliver lasting impact.”

Ecology Group chief financial officer, Chris Heyes said: “The acquisition of Mine Environment Management marks a critical moment for Global Ecology and Environmental Group and is underscored by our recognition that to be a market leader, we need to build a business of interconnected leaders in their field. This includes our established expertise in areas from BNG to nature finance, and now – mining. This is especially critical as the sector underpins global plans to meet net zero and deliver on other climate and environment commitments. We are really looking forward to working with Steven, Marguerite, the MEM team, and the wider group, to deliver on our ambition to become a market leader.”
