Behind the Benchmark: Most Admired Companies of the Year

October 5, 2026

Building a business takes time. For many owners, it takes decades. Along the way come employees, customers, challenges, opportunities, and countless decisions that shape the company. So when the time comes to consider selling, growing, or bringing in a partner, the decision can be both financial and deeply personal.

Benchmark International was founded in 2008 with a clear vision: to give business owners a strategic, individualized approach to selling their businesses. Nearly two decades later, that vision still shapes how its teams collaborate and guide owners through the complexities of M&A.

Key Highlights:

  • Benchmark International takes an individualized approach to sell-side M&A, recognizing that every business, owner, and transaction has different goals, priorities, and definitions of success.
  • Trust, collaboration, and shared commitment shape the firm’s culture, guiding how teams work across offices and disciplines, support clients, and contribute to the communities where they live and work.
  • Global reach, technology, and experienced M&A professionals work together through proprietary research, the Fingerprint Process, the Buyer Portal, and a network of more than 400,000 registered buyers worldwide.
  • Recognition among the Most Admired Companies of the Year 2026 reflects the people behind Benchmark International and reinforces the firm’s commitment to raising its standards, earning client trust, and investing in long-term growth.

Today, Benchmark International combines global reach, experienced M&A professionals, proprietary technology, and access to more than 400,000 registered buyers worldwide.

But scale is only part of the story. Every business is different, every owner has different priorities, and every transaction begins with a different idea of what comes next. That approach has also contributed to Benchmark International’s recognition among the Most Admired Companies of the Year 2026.

Learn How Benchmark Positions Businesses for Success

A Culture Centered on A Shared Commitment

We strive to create an environment where clients and colleagues alike feel they have a team in their corner. Walk into any of our offices around the world, and you can see that team spirit and shared sense of purpose in action.

We have built a culture centered on collaboration, accountability, and a shared commitment to delivering for our clients. That culture extends across offices, disciplines, and geographies. It also matters in the work itself. Culture can play an important role in M&A, which is why we take the time to understand each client’s values and priorities and consider them when identifying potential buyers and evaluating fit.

“Being recognized among the ‘Most Admired Companies of the Year 2026’ is especially meaningful because admiration is something you earn through trust, consistency, and how you treat people,” said Tyrus O’Neill, Chief Executive Officer of Benchmark International Americas.

Our team members are also committed to making a difference in the communities where we live and work. We support charitable organizations and community initiatives through fundraising, volunteering, individual campaigns, and corporate partnerships.

Through our partnership with Vinik Sports Group and the Lightning Foundation, we help advance initiatives that improve access to essential resources, expand mentorship and education pathways, and support families across Tampa Bay.

Different Goals, Different Paths

No two business owners arrive at the M&A process for the same reason. Some are ready to retire or pursue their next chapter. Others want a strategic or financial partner that can provide capital, expertise, infrastructure, or access to new markets. Some want to diversify their wealth while letting the company keep growing.

Benchmark International’s core focus is sell-side M&A advisory, allowing our teams to remain closely aligned with the objectives of the business owners we represent. Our integrated international platform combines in-house research, marketing, transaction execution, sector expertise, and direct access to active buyers around the globe.

Gain Insight Into Your Company’s Current Market Value

“Our clients entrust us with what is often the most significant financial and personal transaction of their lives: the sale of a business they may have spent decades building,” O’Neill said. “We take that responsibility seriously.”

That individualized approach is at the heart of Benchmark International’s Fingerprint process designed around a simple principle: every business, owner, and transaction is different. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach, we build the strategy around the seller’s objectives and the specific characteristics of the business.

The process begins with developing a clear understanding of the company, its market, its value drivers, the owner’s priorities, and what a successful outcome looks like for them. From there, our teams position the business, identify and engage potential strategic and financial buyers, manage interest, and create a competitive process designed to give the seller meaningful options.

Reach With a Purpose

Technology and data strengthen that process. Our proprietary research capabilities, extensive buyer network, and Buyer Portal help us identify and connect with relevant buyers across industries and geographies. Today, Benchmark International’s registered buyer network includes more than 400,000 buyers worldwide.

We developed the Buyer Portal to make it easier for qualified buyers to discover relevant opportunities, set preferences, receive real-time alerts, review transaction materials, and communicate directly with our team. These capabilities help expand the reach of our opportunities and connect our clients’ businesses with relevant buyers more efficiently.

Still, success is not about creating the longest list of buyers. Creating meaningful options and competitive interest gives owners a stronger position from which to consider valuation, employees, cultural alignment, future growth, and legacy.

“We’ve built a team that collaborates across markets and disciplines to find the right opportunity for every client, whether the best buyer is across the street or around the world,” O’Neill said.

Trust at the Center

Trust is fundamental to our business. Business owners are asking the firm to represent something they may have spent decades, or generations, building. That responsibility extends far beyond the financial aspects of a transaction. M&A can be unfamiliar and complex, so our job is to provide clarity, perspective, and experienced guidance at every stage.

“I believe our reputation comes down to our people, our global reach, and our commitment to delivering exceptional outcomes,” O’Neill said. “We’ve built a team that collaborates across markets and disciplines to identify opportunities aligned with each client’s objectives, whether the most relevant buyer is across the street or around the world.”

Explore the Process Trusted by Business Owners Worldwide

Technology makes us more effective, but it does not replace experienced M&A professionals. We use technology and data to sharpen our research, identify potential buyers more efficiently, organize information, and streamline elements of the deal process. Even as AI and data capabilities advance, experience and human decision-making remain essential.

M&A is personal at its core. Data can identify patterns and opportunities, but it cannot fully understand what a business represents to the person who spent decades building it. Technology cannot replace the judgment required to understand an owner’s priorities, navigate difficult decisions, or provide perspective when circumstances change.

That is why we embrace new tools wherever they can improve the process and outcomes without sacrificing care, judgment, or personal service. The strongest results come when technology and human expertise work together.

Leadership Built on Experience

Tyrus has built his career within Benchmark International, leading deal teams in both Florida and Tennessee before assuming broader leadership responsibilities across the Americas. With extensive experience leading transactions and building high-performing teams, he is responsible for guiding the firm’s vision across the region, strengthening operations, expanding market visibility, developing talent, and ensuring Benchmark International continues to deliver strong outcomes for its clients.

Tyrus balances his executive responsibilities with a hands-on approach, remaining closely connected to clients and actively involved throughout the transaction process. He understands that selling a business is often a once-in-a-lifetime event for an owner and can involve far more than valuation, including family legacy, employees, customers, the company’s identity, and the owner’s plans for the next chapter.

Protect and Maximize the Legacy You’ve Built

For Tyrus, a successful transaction is about more than reaching closing. It is about helping an owner achieve an outcome that supports what comes next—for the business, its employees, and the owner personally.

Tyrus has contributed to billions of dollars in transaction value for Benchmark International clients. His experience includes transactions such as Atlanta Biologicals, acquired by Bio-Techne; Adapt Laser Systems, acquired by Boyne Capital Partners; Gasco Affiliates, acquired by Tech Air and CI Capital Partners; Delta Mechanical Contractors; and Carolina Physical Therapy.

His experience spans publicly traded strategic acquirers, private equity buyers, and private-equity-backed strategic transactions. The Gasco Affiliates transaction was recognized as North American Deal of the Year by The M&A Advisor, and Tyrus was subsequently named Investment Banker of the Year at the 22nd Annual M&A Advisor Awards Gala.

Today, Tyrus is focused on leading innovation, improving operations, expanding the firm’s market visibility, and aligning teams around Benchmark International’s long-term vision. At the center of that work is a simple measure of success: helping business owners achieve the outcome they have spent years, and often a lifetime, working toward.

Recognition Rooted in Trust

For O’Neill, Benchmark International’s recognition among the Most Admired Companies of the Year 2026 belongs to the people behind the company.

“Ultimately, this recognition belongs to our people,” he said. “I’m incredibly proud of what they’ve built and how they represent Benchmark International every day. It also reinforces our responsibility to continue raising our own standards and earning that trust with every client we serve.”

Looking ahead, we are focused on smart, long-term growth and continuing to improve the transaction experience for both sellers and buyers. Beyond the Buyer Portal, we continue to invest in technology, data, talent development, and our global footprint. The goal is straightforward: every investment must improve how we identify opportunities, serve clients, and execute transactions.

As we continue to scale, our priority is to preserve what has always differentiated Benchmark International: trusted relationships, personal service, and a commitment to achieving the objectives that matter most to each business owner.
